CARE-writer was developed by Scientific Writing in Health and Medicine (SWIHM) to complement SWIHM’s online case report writing training.

David Riley, MD — founder of Scientific Writing in Health and Medicine and co-leader of the CARE guidelines — is board certified in Internal Medicine and an editor with The Permanente Journal. He has participated in the development of health research reporting guidelines since 1999 and in 2011, Dr. Riley co-led the development of the CARE guidelines for case reports. The CARE guidelines have become a widely accepted standard for writing case reports endorsed by medical journals and translated into more than 10 languages.
